Brazil's Furnas may take part in Chinese offshore wind project

Brazilian utility Furnas is considering taking a role in a 200MW offshore wind project in China in partnership with Three Gorges.

The Chinese could also invest in the 3.5GW wind pipeline that Furnas – a subsidiary of Brazilian state power group Eletrobras – has registered for Brazil’s next batch of power tenders.

Following a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the two companies to work together on renewables, Three Gorges has offered Furnas the opportunity to participate in three Chinese projects – one offshore and two onshore – according to Olga Simbalista, director of planning at Furnas.
