Scira has learned valuable lessons from Sheringham Shoal, lessons it wants to share with other developers

The European offshore wind industry faces so many challenges that one would assume it would not go out of its way to create even more.

Unfortunately, the industry’s lack of transparency is likely to continue creating headaches in the foreseeable future, according to Rune Rønvik, project manager at the nearly completed Sheringham Shoal in UK waters.

“In contrast to the oil industry, the wind industry acts kind of protective; companies tend to keep things quiet, to keep their problems to themselves,” says Rønvik, a 20-year veteran of the oil and gas business before taking the reins at StatoilHydro’s first offshore wind project four years ago.
