Vattenfall counts 60GWh cost of Thanet offshore cable woes

Vattenfall had hoped to have the repairs at Thanet finished by February

Slower-than-planned repairs at a faulty export cable linking to the 300MW Thanet offshore wind farm dented the performance of Vattenfall’s renewables division in early 2012, as the Swedish utility braced itself for several years of weak market conditions.

Early this year Vattenfall revealed that it was undertaking more repairs at Thanet, off the southeast coast of England, after discovering yet another problem with an export cable.

Subocean performed the original cable work at Thanet before toppling into bankruptcy last year, and Vattenfall has since had to call in several firms to repair or replace various sections. These included Red7Marine and A2SEA-backed CT Offshore.

In January a Vattenfall spokesman told Recharge the company hoped to have Thanet flowing electricity back to shore at full capacity by February. But Log in to read complete article.
