Offshore strategy intact despite 7MW delay, insists Vestas

Vestas says several companies have enquired about jointly developing its offshore turbine business – but insists it will press ahead with its now-delayed 7MW machine with or without a partner.

“We are evaluating these to see if they make sense,” chief executive Ditlev Engel tells Recharge. He would not comment on what type of companies the potential partners are or exactly how many it is looking at.

Engel today revealed that Vestas is slowing the pace of development of its V164 7MW offshore turbine, and now expects to unveil the first prototype in 2014 rather than next year as previously planned.
