REpower rethinks Australian wind farm on community feedback

REpower and co-developer Windlab Systems are scaling back plans for the 290MW Rugby wind farm in New South Wales in response to community feedback and the state’s 2011 draft wind farm guidelines.

Although the scaled down wind farm – at 52 turbines – is about 40% smaller than the initial 90-turbine, A$380m proposal, it could still deliver significant benefits to the local community, says Chris Judd, managing director of Suzlon-owned REpower Australia .

“If approved by the NSW government, the Rugby Wind Farm would inject over A$95m into the Rugby and Boorowa regions of NSW over the life of the wind farm,” he says.

The project is expected to generate reliable income for local farmers and landowners who host turbines on Log in to read complete article.
