Thailand's Ratchaburi earmarks $600m for Australian wind growth

Thailand’s Ratchaburi Electricity plans to triple its existing 100MW of wind capacity in Australia, citing good resources on the country’s coasts and favourable government policies.

The A$572m ($600m) expansion will be spearheaded by its Australian subsidiary Ratch-Australia, according to chief executive Noppol Milinthanggoon.

"We have a goal to invest in at least three wind energy projects with a total production volume of 200MW from an existing 100MW capacity," he says.

Australia has strong wind on its coasts and its government is supportive of renewable energy development, offering several investment incentives, Noppol notes.

The country is targeting 20% of its total energy needs from renewable sources by 2020 and in July will impose a carbon price of A$23 per tonne Log in to read complete article.
