EDF group gets three French offshore zones, Iberdrola one

A consortium featuring state-owned energy group EDF and turbine-maker Alstom has won three of the five development zones up for grabs in France's first offshore wind tender round.

A second group including Spanish energy giant Iberdrola and French equipment supplier Areva was awarded a single zone.

The third consortium taking part, also including Areva and led by French utility GDF, left the process empty handed.

The tender will result in 2GW of capacity in Northern France and see a total investment of €7bn ($9.1bn), the French energy minister Eric Besson says. A second tender round will be held in the second half of this year.
