RWE calls in Seaway vessel to keep Gwynt y Mor on track

With its own offshore installation vessels undergoing repairs in Germany, utility RWE has placed a follow-on order with Seaway Heavy Lifting to begin installing foundations at the 576MW Gwynt y Mor wind project off the coast of North Wales.

Being forced to book Seaway’s Stanislav Yudin crane vessel to begin turbine installation at Gwynt y Mor represents a setback for RWE, whose newly-built jack-up vessels were intended to perform the work.

In February it emerged that RWE Innogy’s two new tailor-made installation vessels – the Friedrich Ernestine, due for work at Gwynt y Mor, and the Victoria Mathias, destined for Germany’s 295MW Nordsee Ost project – would face six months of repairs in Bremerhaven after being delivered from South Korean shipyard Daewoo earlier this year.
