Australian court blocks $185m wind project over visual impact

A court in Australia has blocked a A$175m ($185m) wind farm planned by Spanish renewables group Acciona Energy.

The hearing in the state of South Australia upheld an appeal against the 46-turbine, 69MW project near Allendale East based on its visual impact.

It is believed to be the first time a court in the country has ruled against a wind farm on such grounds.

Acciona, which also operates the 192MW Waubra wind farm in Victoria, is considering an appeal of its own against the decision.
