China's United Power installs 6MW offshore wind turbine

Guodian United Power, China’s fastest growing wind turbine maker, has installed a 6MW prototype turbine off the coast of eastern Shandong province.

The turbine has 66.5 metre blades and the nacelle weighs 240 tons, according to a statement on the firm’s website.

United Power, a unit of one of China’s ‘big five’ power companies, China Guodian, produced its first turbines in 2007 but has already taken a large share of the domestic market, installing about 2.8GW last year.

Some analysts believe it could become the market leader this year in terms of installations.

The company claims the new 6MW turbine contains entirely independent intellectual property.
