Good Energy offers UK's first 'local' renewables tariff

UK renewables utility Good Energy has unveiled the UK’s first local electricity tariff rewarding households who live near its wind farms with discounts on their energy bills, in a bid to boost the benefit communities get from hosting turbines.

Customers who live within 2km of the company’s flagship 9.2MW Delabole wind farm in north Cornwall, will qualify for its new local tariff, offering a 20% discount on its standard electricity prices.

The discount will save an average Good Energy customer living near the wind farm around £100 ($159) a year.
