GE reaches milestone with 20,000th wind turbine installation

General Electric has installed its 20,000th wind turbine worldwide, the US industrial giant has revealed.

“We couldn’t have achieved this milestone without our development partners,” says Vic Abate, GE vice president of renewable energy. “Together, we have advanced wind to its current status as a relevant, reliable, competitive source of energy.”

GE achieved its 10,000th turbine milestone in November 2008 and its 15,000th in February 2011.

GE acquired Enron’s wind turbine business a decade ago and has been the US market leader since then. Advancements in technology have driven turbine availability from 85% to 98.5%, and a 3-fold reduction in the cost of electricity.
