First Wind brings fifth Maine project into commerical operation

Developer First Wind’s 34MW Bull Hill Wind has begun commercial operation in Maine, with utility NStar taking all electricity from the project under a 15-year fixed-price contract to power nearly 18,000 homes.

Bull Hill is First Wind’s fifth wind project in the state representing an investment of at least $600m. The wind farms together have capacity to generate 219MW.

The other facilities are 42MW Mars Hill Wind, 60MW Rollins Wind, 57MW Stetson Wind and 26MW Stetson Wind II.

“The Bull Hill Wind project will serve as a source of cost-competitive renewable energy and a boost to the local economy through tax revenues and ongoing operations,” says First Wind chief executive Paul Gaynor.
