Leading wind turbine producer Goldwind intends to use what it says is a unique approach among Chinese manufacturers to get through the “cold winter” of the next two years — a focus on technology and cultural openness.

Chief executive Wu Gang tells Recharge: “We have an open mind and we try and learn from different countries’ cultures, so that is quite different from other Chinese companies.”

Wu calls this the “base frame” of Goldwind’s efforts to improve, and says there are five elements to its “go global” approach: internationalising the company’s technology and products; internationalising its human resources; expanding into international markets; gaining access to international capital; and adopting an international management system.

A key area for Goldwind’s international expansion is the US, where it built the 109.5MW
