Megawatt OMS gets $171m of finance for Polish wind

Poland generates around 90% of its electricity from coal

Megawatt OMS, a joint-venture of Austria's RP Global and European infrastructure fund Marguerite, has secured 555m zlotys ($171m) of financing for the development of wind farms in Poland.

The loans, 330m zlotys of which will back a new 54MW wind farm located in the north of the country, are funded jointly by Polish financier PKO BP and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The rest will go toward refinancing loans granted by other banks for the development of a 50MW project, which began operating in 2010.

The deal comes as Poland is proposing to overhaul its green energy support system and plans to cut support for onshore wind farms.
