UK releases $16m more for cost-cutting offshore wind plans

£3m has been earmarked for technology transfers into the offshore wind arena

The UK’s Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) is targeting oil and gas, aerospace and industrial groups with a £10m ($16m) fund designed to spur development of new cost-cutting technologies for the offshore wind sector.

Some £7m is to be made available under the third round of the joint DECC/Technology Strategy Board (TSB) component technologies scheme, which is expected to seed-fund between five and 10 projects.

A further £3m has been earmarked for studies into technology transfers into the offshore wind arena from other sectors.

"Through this funding we want to encourage the development of technologies that will reduce the cost of energy from offshore wind farms, while ensuring that companies in the UK supply chain increase their share of the market," says TSB
