Vestas closes US R&D operations, expects 85 job losses

Vestas is closing research and development operations in the US and not consolidating them in Brighton, Colorado as was announced in September, spokesman Andrew Longeteig tells Recharge.

“We’re closing our three R&D facilities in the US,” he says in an email, with the move to be completed by second quarter 2013. About 85 workers are affected. The facilities are in Houston, Texas, Marlborough, Massachusetts, and Louisville, Colorado.

“Vestas has decided to further simplify its global research and development (R&D) footprint to reduce operational costs,” the company says in a statement. “This is a difficult decision to part with dedicated and talented people who contributed to Vestas’ success.”

Vestas has blade and nacelle plants in Brighton, located about 32 miles (51.4km)…
