Impsa says Argentina blade swap not due to technical issue

Argentine manufacturer Impsa has replaced all the blades on its turbines at the 25MW Arauco wind farm in La Rioja province.

Impsa says the expensive move has been made to improve the 1MW turbine’s design, and rejects industry insiders’ claims that the blades have been replaced to overcome vibration problems.

“What we did was optimise the design of the blades that were designed for the first prototype machines,” says Impsa executive vice-president José Luis Menghini. “The new design guarantees better energy production.”

The wind farm, a joint venture between state electricity company Enarsa and the government of La Rioja, came on line last year. Another 12 turbines are being added…
