First power from UK's 630MW London Array offshore wind farm

The first power has been produced at the 630MW London Array offshore wind project in the UK, says its developer.

The 630MW first phase of the wind farm in the Thames Estuary outside London – co-owned by Dong Energy, E.ON and Masdar – now has 151 of its 175 turbines in place.

Construction of the first phase is on course to finish by the end of 2012.

Last week the developer announced that it would seek permission for a 240MW second phase, smaller than originally intended to take account of rare birds in the area.
