US EPC giant Bechtel lines up European offshore wind deals

Bechtel is in discussions over a role at Centrica and Dong's Irish Sea zone

American engineering giant Bechtel hopes to have its name attached to a major European offshore wind project in the “very near term”, and is also in discussions over a potential role at Centrica and Dong Energy’s Round 3 Irish Sea zone, Recharge can reveal.

“We’re targeting some specific opportunities, both in the UK and Germany, with developers and utilities, some of them very near-term,” says Jim Ivany, who heads Bechtel’s renewables unit — one of five business units within the $30bn company.

“Some of them are basically ready for [final investment decision] within six months,” Ivany tells Recharge. “Some are longer-term, where they’re in Round 3 in the Irish Sea or other places — as well as the German market.”
