Broadwind buoys weak US wind tower market with $37m order

Broadwind Energy announces it has won tower orders totaling $37m from two US wind turbine manufacturers for production starting this quarter and “extending well into 2013.”

Company spokesman John Segvich did not immediately return a phone call seeking clarification if the vendors were US companies or foreign suppliers with US operations.

The towers will be produced in the company's Manitowoc, Wisconsin, facility.

The order is a dose of cheer for a sector that has been pummeled by months of negative news including Otter Tail Corporation’s decision to exit the business, Katana Summit looking to do the same, Trinity Industries reducing production capacity and Broadwind seeking to diversify into other industrial sectors.
