Siem Offshore orders support vessel to meet wind work

The Ulstein SX 163-design ISV is to be delivered in March 2014

Norwegian shipbuilder Fjellstrand has taken a NKr300m ($52.5m) order from Siem Offshore Rederi for a new infield support vessel (ISV) to carry out wind-related work.

The Ulstein SX 163-design ISV, which will measure 74-metres in length and accommodate 60, is to be delivered in March 2014.

Fjellstrand pre-project manager Olav Bru says the growth of the offshore wind industry is beginning to “bring forward great demand for large vessels of high quality, operating in connection with installations and service of the wind farms”.

The vessel's hull will be built outside Norway, with outfitting carried out at Fjellstrand’s yard in Omastrand.

The contract includes an option for a second vessel.

Fjellstrand is currently building six high-speed Wind Server personnel transport vessels…
