XEMC remains keen on US offshore wind turbine factory

China’s XEMC-Windpower remains firm with its proposal to build a wind turbine factory in Port of Paulsboro, New Jersey, if developer Fishermen’s Energy wins regulatory approvals for pilot and utility-scale New Jersey offshore projects, an official at subsidiary XEMC-Darwind tells Recharge.

Fishermen’s has selected the 5MW XEMC-Darwind XD115 permanent magnet direct-drive turbine for its 25MW demonstration array in state waters 2.8 miles (4.5km) off Atlantic City, one of the largest seaside resorts on the US east coast.

The developer has proposed a 330MW project in federal waters off New Jersey, and also expressed interest in potential commercial wind lease areas that the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has delineated off Maryland, Rhode Island-Massachusetts and Virginia.
