Vestas sheds 80 US workers at blade plant on PTC uncertainty

Vestas this week laid off about 80 employees at a rotor blade manufacturing plant in Brighton, Colorado, as the company continues to shrink its workforce with the wind industry’s main tax incentive set to expire on 31 December.

“This workforce reduction represents about 5% of Vestas’ manufacturing employees in the state,” spokesman Andrew Longeteig says in a statement. “This is a difficult decision because we must part with dedicated and talented people in Colorado who have helped make Vestas the global leader in wind energy.”

More redundancies are expected soon, according to press reports in Colorado. The company had about 3,000 employees in North America before the latest cutback.
