China’s XEMC is the latest turbine manufacturer to try its hand at a takeover of bankrupt German offshore wind specialist Bard, with Recharge reporting that officials recently visited the firm’s Bremen headquarters to begin talks.

Bard’s hopelessly overambitious business model has unravelled over the past 18 months. It is likely to finally complete its 400MW Bard Offshore 1 project at the end of 2012, but only after years of setbacks.

Bard is in no position to carry out further development projects, and it has also lost the turbine contracts it had in the Netherlands to rival manufacturer Siemens.

The company was forced to close its Emden blade factory because of a lack of orders after the Bard 1 units had been produced, and its planned 6.5MW…
