Ohio county shelves Lake Erie geotechnical survey for wind farm

Cuyahoga County in Ohio has deferred a request for proposals until 2013 for geotechnical surveying of an area of Lake Erie facing Cleveland, where a regional corporation wants to locate a proposed 27MW Icebreaker pilot wind farm.

The Cuyahoga County Department of Development (CCDD) in early August sought proposals for geotechnical services that would have included test borings, soil samplings and analysis in the lake’s sediment. The deadline was 22 August with surveying work planned for September. The county would have paid the contractor.

CCDD decided to shelve the work until next year at the behest of lawyers there who raised questions about the document’s wording, as well as for unspecified weather-related reasons. Michelle Adams, public information officer at CCDD, tells Recharge that no new date has…
