Alstom to set up wind turbine tower factory in Brazil

Alstom – the French wind turbine manufacturer that already has one factory operating in Brazil – has signed a letter of intent with Rio Grande do Sul state to build a tower production facility there.

Alstom will make an initial €12m investment in the new plant, which will have an capacity of 120 towers annually – representing about 350MW.

The factory will be set up in Canoas next to Alstom’s grid unit, which runs the company’s power transmission business in Brazil. It should begin operating in the first half of 2013.

Among projects to be supplied with towers from the new factory is the 108MW Corredor do Senandes wind farm complex, being built by Odebrecht Energia in Rio Grande do Sul.
