GDF Suez Brazil arm banks first chunk of BNDES wind finance

Tractebel Energia – the Brazilian subsidiary of French power giant GDF Suez – has received its first instalment of finance from national development bank BNDES to back its wind development plans.

The R$53.8m ($26.5m) is an initial payment of a total of R$358m for four wind farms – Mundaú, Fleixeiras, Trairi and Guajirú – which represent a total capacity of 115.4MW. The projects will be built in Trairí, Ceará state.

Siemens, the German wind turbine supplier that recently lost eligibility for preferential financing from BNDES, will supply SWT-2.3-101 machines.

The company was among six that lost “Finame” rating after an audit earlier this year found the groups were not in compliance with local-content regulations.
