First power produced at Dong's Anholt offshore wind project

Anholt will be fully operational by the end of the year

Dong is attempting to fully-commission the wind farm by the end of 2013

Power production started today at Denmark's Anholt offshore wind farm project, says developer Dong Energy.

The 400MW Anholt – which is being built at a record-breaking pace by the Danish utility giant – began generating electricity less than three weeks after the installation of the first of its 111 Siemens turbines.

Dong is attempting to fully-commission the wind farm by the end of 2013, due to the terms of the concession which the Danish government awarded in summer 2010.

When finished, Anholt will be Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm and cover 4% of the nation’s total power consumption.
