TenneT hires Intertek to help meet German offshore task

TenneT is responsible for the links to Germany's ambitious offshore wind plans

Transmission system operator (TSO) TenneT has brought in UK marine consultancy Intertek to oversee a programme of surveys aimed at mapping out locations for substations and lay-routes for the main export trunklines for Germany's offshore wind build-out.

Intertek, which has previously worked with TenneT on the UK-to-Netherlands BritNed interconnector, will carry out geophysical and geotechnical inspections that are seen as key to the development of projects as far as 100km from shore.

“The German market has a unique set of challenges to overcome if it is to meet its offshore wind energy targets for 2020 and beyond,” says Intertek managing director Frank Beiboer.
