German offshore grid law weeks away from adoption – minister

A proposed law that will limit liability for offshore grid operators and compensate wind farm developers for lack of power connections could be passed in the next few weeks, German environment minister Peter Altmaier says.

The draft law, approved by the German cabinet last month, is seen as crucial to unblocking the build-out of offshore wind in the country.

“The proposal we announced at the end of August has been welcomed by banks, investors and wind power companies, and we are optimistic it will be adopted in the coming weeks,” Altmaier said while at the Husum WindEnergy event in Germany.

However, he warns that all the technical problems that have arisen over the last few months will take longer to resolve.
