Goldwind to supply turbines for Panama's Penonome wind farm

Goldwind will supply an initial 55MW of wind turbines for developer Union Eolica Panameña’s (UEP) Penonome project in central Panama, with the Chinese vendor also taking an equity stake in it.

Goldwind will erect and commission the 2.5MW permanent magnet direct-drive turbines, and also supervise balance of plant construction and interconnection to the local grid.

UEP, the Panamanian subsidiary of Spain’s Unión Eólica, says the 220MW project, when fully built, will be the largest wind farm in Central America. It will then supply as much as 7% of the country’s electricity demand.

“Equity capital has been committed for the first phase of the wind farm, representing 25% of the project, by Goldwind’s investment arm, Goldwind Capital,” the turbine supplier says in a statement.
