China's Guohua invests in third Tasmanian wind farm

Chinese power company Guohua Energy is to take a 75% stake in Hydro Tasmania’s Musselroe wind farm, expanding its wind assets in Australia.

Guohua’s Australian subsidiary Shenhua Clean Energy Holding has already invested in Hydro Tasmania’s two Woolnorth wind projects.

The latest deal sees it gaining majority ownership of the larger 168MW Musselroe wind farm, currently under construction in north-east Tasmania and backed by A$395m ($414m) in investment.

The agreement is subject to several conditions, including project finance, execution of a formal connection agreement and Chinese regulatory approvals.

It is expected to reach financial close by the end of 2012.
