Nordex buys Honduran wind developer and 300MW portfolio

German turbine manufacturer Nordex has acquired Honduran developer R4E and its 300MW portfolio of wind projects for an undisclosed sum.

Nordex hopes to see the projects completed in 2014 and 2015, though they have yet to secure long-term power-purchase agreements.

The Honduran government is seeking to spur renewable energy projects via contracts with the national power company, Enee.

The R4E projects will be developed in San Marcos de Colon in Choluteca and Ojojona in Francisco Morazán.

A 102MW wind project is already in operation in Honduras, built by Globeleq Mesoamerica Energy. It came on line last year and is equipped with Gamesa wind turbines.
