RWE installation vessel arrives in UK ahead of Gwynt y Môr work

RWE Innogy’s new €100m ($126m) installation vessel has arrived in the UK to get ready to start work at the 576MW Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm.

The jack-up vessel Friedrich Ernestine arrived at Cammell Laird Shipyard in Birkenhead, northwest England, this weekend.

At 100-metres long and 49-metres wide, the vessel is one of the largest of its kind in the world, capable of transporting and installing up to three foundations or four multi-megawatt turbines, says German-owned RWE Innogy.

The Friedrich Ernestine will stay at Cammel Laird for final fit-out before further sea trials.

Once ready, it will join the heavy-lift vessel Stanislav Yudin, which recently started installing foundations at the Gwynt y Môr site off the coast of North Wales.
