Delaware lawmakers urge DOE to act on offshore wind test site

Delaware’s two US senators and lone US congressman are urging Energy Secretary Steven Chu to review and support a joint proposal by the University of Delaware and National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) to create a wind test site off the state’s Atlantic Ocean coast.

The partners submitted a proposal for the site in response to the Energy Department’s request for proposals for advanced technology demonstration projects.

In a letter to Chu, Senators Tom Carper and Chris Coons, and Congressman John Carney, all Democrats, argued that as a result of its design they expect the test site will advance the knowledge base of innovative offshore wind technology.
