Bank set to further tighten Brazil's wind turbine content rules

The Brazilian development bank, BNDES, is set to expand its local-content regulations for turbine makers, with plans to demand that nacelles be assembled locally.

Developers can only access the bank’s most generous finance rates if a project’s turbines meet these requirements — which had been for them to be at least 60% “made in Brazil”.

The new nacelles requirement has emerged as a likely proposal just days after news broke that the bank had dropped several manufacturers from its authorised list because it had begun insisting that full hub assembly must take place in Brazil.
