Gamesa taps low-wind US sites with new 2MW turbine model

Gamesa will debut its G97-2MW Class IIIA turbine in the US at the 36MW Big Blue project in Minnesota, introducing a model designed specifically for low-wind sites that the vendor believes will make development possible in more regions.

Exergy Development Group will install 18 of the units on 78-metre-tall towers near the city of Blue Earth, located in south-central Faribault County along Minnesota’s border with Iowa. It is Gamesa’s first wind project with Exergy, based in Boise, Idaho.

“This is a new collaboration that brings Gamesa’s innovative wind turbine technology into Exergy’s expanding renewable energy development portfolio,” says David Rosenberg, marketing vice president for Gamesa North America.
