RWE Innogy favours case-by-case deals offshore, says chief

RWE Innogy is unlikely to go the way of rival utility Dong Energy and sign another big framework deal for offshore turbines, chief executive Hans Bünting tells Recharge.

In 2009, RWE signed a deal with REpower to buy up to 250 of its 5M and 6M offshore turbines, in one of the biggest deals in the history of the wind industry, but Bünting says a repeat performance is not on the cards.

He says RWE is likely to carry out competitive offshore turbine tendering on a project-by-project basis, as it does for onshore.
