ScottishPower plans to boost Whitelee wind farm to 551MW

ScottishPower Renewables wants to add another 12MW to Europe’s largest onshore wind farm.

The Iberdrola subsidiary has submitted a planning application for the extension to its Whitelee project in East Ayrshire, Scotland, bringing its total capacity to 551MW.

The utility has already extended Whitelee twice, adding 75 machines since connecting the first 140 turbines in 2009.

ScottishPower Renewables says the latest of those additions will be operating at full power by early autumn.

The company does not specify a turbine supplier for the planned new 12MW, which would be located to the west of the existing site.
