Agency sees no conflicts for pilot US offshore wind grid

The US government has determined that Deepwater Wind does not face competition from other developers for construction of a transmission system that will connect a proposed 30MW pilot offshore wind project with the Rhode Island coastline.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) describes its finding as an important step in evaluating Deepwater’s request for a right-of-way grant for an 8 nautical mile (14.8km) long, 200-foot wide (60.9 meters) corridor in federal waters on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) to lay cable under the seabed.
