In Depth: EDF builds its presence in UK offshore wind

EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN) is stepping up its involvement in the UK offshore wind sector.

The French utility giant caught the headlines in April when it acquired a 50% stake in Eneco’s Navitus Bay Round 3 project off the coast of southeast England.

Now, after almost a decade since the area was awarded, EDF EN — through its UK subsidiary, EDF Energy Renewables — is building the Teesside wind farm off northeast England.

It is the company’s first wholly owned offshore project, after it participated as an equity stakeholder in Belgium’s Thornton Bank.
