Alstom seizing chance to be a major offshore wind player

French turbine manufacturer Alstom Wind is making its plans to become a major player on the offshore scene a reality, with testing of its Haliade 150 6MW prototype and the creation of a series of new facilities.

“Winning in the French tender has given us a great opportunity to build up our industrial set-up for offshore,” says Frédéric Hendrick, Alstom’s vice-president for offshore wind.

A consortium led by EDF Energies Nouvelles and Dong Energy, with Alstom as its industrial partner, won three of the four French zones awarded, giving it a total capacity of 1.43GW. The wind farms will require investment of about €2bn ($2.45bn).
