GE wind shipments booming, but new orders declining

General Electric is preparing to deliver almost as many wind turbines in the second half of this year as it did in all of 2011.

The US industrial giant will ship some 1,800 to 2,000 turbines through the remainder of 2012, says chief financial officer Keith Sherin during GE's second-quarter conference call.

Project developers in the US are scrambling to complete what may be a record number of new installations ahead of the 31 December deadline to qualify for the production tax credit (PTC). But the absence of the PTC is expected to cause a significant drop in business during 2013, and signs of the slowdown are emerging throughout the industry.
