Spanish wind industry reacts with fury to prospect of 11% tax

Spain’s wind industry association (AEE) has denounced reported plans by the government to impose an 11% tax on wind generation, warning that it would cost the sector €3bn ($3.7bn) and reduce the profitability of plants by 30%.

The figure of an 11% levy on wind has been widely reported in the Spanish press, as part of a wider tax on energy generation aimed at cutting Spain’s €24bn “tariff deficit".

AEE officials say there has been no official confirmation from the government – but that the figures indicate a “clear leak” to the press of the details of the plans.
