SSE seeks consent for half-size Glencassley wind farm

SSE Renewables has cut by almost half its plans for its Glencassley wind farm in Scotland, proposing a 26-turbine development compared to the original 47.

The renewables arm of UK utility SSE says the onshore wind farm would now have a capacity of up to 78MW at the site, northwest of Lairg in Sutherland.

Proposed turbine height has also been reduced from 135 metres to 126.5 metres as part of an effort to minimise its visibility.

The reductions follow a two-year process of assessment and consultation, says SSE.

If consented by the Scottish government, the wind farm will take about two years to build.
