Update: Northwind confirms 216MW Vestas turbine order

The developer of the Northwind offshore wind farm in Belgian waters placed a firm order for 216MW of turbines from Vestas, as the project reached financial close.

The deal cements a conditional supply contract signed between Northwind and the Danish turbine manufacturer in January.

It came as Northwind wrapped up a €595 ($748m) financing package that includes €333m from the European Investment Bank (EIB).

The EIB joined a nine-strong group of institutions funding the project that also includes KfW-Ipex Bank, ING and Rabo Bank.

Vestas will supply, install and commission 72 of its V112-3.0 MW machines at the wind farm, to be built on the Bank Zonder Naam off the coast of Zeebrugge, Belgium.
