Goldwind gets grid green-light for 165MW Australian project

Goldwind’s 2.5MW permanent-magnet direct-drive (PMDD) turbines will make their Australian debut after the Chinese manufacturer signed a grid-connection deal with local operator Transgrid and a power purchase agreement (PPA) with an unnamed customer.

The turbines will be located at Goldwind’s 165MW Gullen Range Wind Farm in New South Wales’ Southern Tablelands.

Goldwind says it has signed a PPA for the project's output, but declines to name the buyer.

Gullen Range is the first major wind farm since early 2011 to receive a connection agreement from TransGrid.

The 2.5MW PMDD turbine was evolved from the 1.5MW series, which has seen over 6000 units commissioned, Goldwind says.

Gullen Range will deploy 73 Goldwind PMDD turbines made up of 1.5MW and 2.5MW machines.
