WMO opts for new WindServer vessel for offshore transit

Denmark’s World Marine Offshore (WMO) has placed an order for six of Norwegian shipbuilder Fjellstrand’s new high-speed wind farm personnel transport vessels.

The first of the aluminium-hulled WindServer trimarans, designed to transport up to 24 people to site at 25 knots, will enter service in 2013.

Powered by a set of four engines turning controllable pitch propellers, the vessels will be equipped with ballasting systems – to shift between rough-weather mode and lightweight transit – and an integrated stabilising-foil to beef up the hull while cutting maintenance costs.

The vessels will have the flexibility to carry out various tasks such as crew transfer, cargo delivery, search and rescue, and diving operations, says their builder.
