Where now for US wind? Turbine makers give their verdict

International turbine vendors have given bumper forecasts for 2012 in the US, before next year’s expected slump.

Wind developers are rushing to complete projects to take ­advantage of the federal production tax credit (PTC) before it expires on 31 December. Most expect total installations this year of 10GW-12GW — up from 6.81GW in 2011 and 5.21GW in 2010. Nordex was the exception, pegging minimum shipments at 9GW. The US record, 10.01GW, was set in 2009.
